Join me and other members of Killing Commercial for this #CBK members-only fun-in-the-sun event in Key West Florida.Â
In June we are having our third annual #CBK event in Key West, FL. All Killing Commercial members are welcome to attend and are encouraged to bring their significant others with them. While we highly encourage everyone to bring their spouse or significant other for the weekend, Key West is not the most conducive environment for a typical family vacation. Especially for little ones. If you would like to bring your kids, please reach out to David Carothers as he can suggest some alternative lodging arrangements that would be more family friendly than Duval St.
The dates are Thursday 6/22 through Monday 6/26. You cover your travel, food, and lodging and I’ll cover the fishing and knowledge sharing and promise you will not be bored.
Don’t worry about the times we are meeting. The spouse/significant other group always have plans to keep them busy. They won’t be disappointed.
Most of our activities are centered around Duval St. so please plan your stay accordingly.Â
Offshore fishing is on Sunday. It is an all-day trip. All members are welcome to come fishing but it is OK if you chose to do something else.  In the interest of limited space and cost, we respectfully ask that the fishing excursion be limited to agents and spouses/significant others only.Â
Each year, we have an end of event dinner where a bunch of our fish gets cooked up family-style and everyone ets to enjoy the rewards of a day on the water. It was a huge hit.
I can promise 3 things.
- You will have an awesome time hanging out.
- You will catch some awesome fish on awesome boats and
- Just like last year, there will be enough nuggets found in the breakout sessions that you will write an exponent of what it costs you to join us. third
What you need to know now!
The only real variable you need to be worried about with Key West right now is the lodging. I announced the dates for this year’s event back in the fall and The Saint Hotel (where I stay every time) sold out in under 12 hours.
That said, you may want to look at the following as they are all in the same general area and all nice properties:
- La Concha
- Ocean Key
- Opal Key
- The Pier House
In addition to the more traditional hotels, Key West is known for its bed and breakfasts. There are quite a few of those we have been to as well and they have been fantastic.
- Simonton Court
- Cocoa Plum Inn
- Curry Mansion
- Avalon
- Azul
The one thing you want to be careful of is where you are reserving. You don’t want to be all the way on the other side of the island unless you want to be all the way on the other side of the island if you know what I mean.

Thursday, June 22
- People will begin arriving (if they didn’t come on Wednesday night).
- 3:00pm – 5:00pm Happy Hour at Rick’s Tree Bar on Duval sponsored by C.B. Wood Financial.
- 6:00pm – Be at the dock by the Margaritaville Resort to board the sunset cruise. It is IMPERATIVE you be on time.
- 6:30 – 8:30 Sunset Cruise Sponsored by Vertafore – MUST SIGN THIS WAIVER
- Free time the rest of the night. Annie and I will likely be at Smokin Tuna.
Friday, June 23
- 11:00am – 12:00pm – Opening of Producers in Paradise at Durty Harry’s on Duval. We will meet under the cover at Dirty Harry’s. Go to the Tree Bar and walk straight to the back. Food provided by Angelina’s Pizza.
- 12:00 – 2:00pm – Josh Braun Keynote on Prospecting
- 2:00 – 3:00pm – Christos Provistalis on Client Experience and Connection
- 3:00pm – Dismiss and the rest of the day is free time. I encourage you all to put together groups for dinner, etc. Also lots of shop talk in The Saint Pool prior to dinner.
- Free Time the rest of the night.
Saturday, June 24
- 11:00am – 12:30 – The State of Technology in the IA Channel. This is a panel that will begin with a presentation by Jason Cass, followed by a panel discussion with Cass, Ryan Deeds from Enabl, Chase Courtney from IPFS, and Heath Shearon from Vertafore.
- 12:30 – 1:00pm – Preparing your Agency for an IRS Audit, a discussion led by me and Dan Smith.
- 1:00 – 2:30 – Dominating Workers Comp. This is a panel discussion that will open with David for 30 minutes and then he will moderate a panel of comp gurus featuring Yellowbird, Zenjuries, The Institute of Work Comp Professionals, and Mod Advisor.
- 2:30 – 3:00pm – 2023-24 Vision for Killing Commercial with David
- 3pm – Free time for the rest of the night.
Sunday, June 25
- 7:45 am – Be at Beach Weekend Marina (formerly Murray Marina) on US 1. More instructions will come out regarding the fishing trip.
- 9:30 am – Be at the dock for the Eco Tour. MUST SIGN THIS WAIVER
- 4:00 pm – Fishing wraps up and they clean the fish.
- 5:00 or 5:30pm – IF and that’s a big IF we catch tuna, come over to The Saint for the freshest sushi you can possibly imagine. We will have fresh sushi and sashimi made at Thai Island and bring it back to The Sain.
- 7:00pm: The last dinner at Dante’s. We will be meeting at Dante’s again this year to eat our catch and close out an awesome weekend.
Monday, June 26
- Head out.
