Mineral HR Solutions

Hey everybody. David Carothers from the Power Producers Podcast and Killing Commercial Insurance Sales training here, and I want to talk to you for just a second about Mineral.

Now a lot of you are probably wondering, “David, why in the world did you engage with Mineral? It has been well-known for several years you were using another provider.” Well, the answer is simple. That other provider gave me a reason to look, and when they did, I found better options. Mineral is one of those. One of the issues that companies have is that they don’t have adequate resources for their number one asset, human capital. See, the middle-market is such a different animal. We’re not selling cheap premiums. We’re trying to solve problems. And a lot of the times that we run into problems, they revolve around people. We put Mineral in place for that very reason. Not only do they have a fantastic hotline that our clients can call to get answers to their tough HR questions, but they have a full-blown learning management system.

Suppose I have an issue with defensive driving or distracted driving, causing insurance premiums to go up. In that case, I can create a customized learning track for that client to use Mineral’s platform to fix those issues.

Also, they have an excellent handbook tool. It’s not just a handbook that you hit and quit and put away forever. It’s a dynamic online handbook. So that as legislation changes in your state so does the handbook. And the employees are alerted. They have to review the changes and sign off on them.

Also, there are a variety of things that you can use in terms of sales collateral and support at the point of sale, and they give all kinds of webinars to educate your clients on HR trends that they need to know. But again, like everything else, it comes down to the people, and the people at Mineral are an excellent resource for those of us at Florida Risk Partners.

As you can imagine, when you have a product like this that you’re so excited about and you know such a great tool, one of the biggest things that you run into is a lack of implementation and adoption. Mineral takes all of that off of my plate. I’m no longer using agency resources to get my clients onboarded and put them in a position to use their tools. Mineral does all of that for me.

Mineral Webinar: Using Current HR Trends to Drive Commercial P & C Opportunities

With David Carothers and Kara Govro, the Chief Legal Expert for Mineral. Watch as we address the following:

  • Without a handbook, employers (and managers) are making it up as they go along
  • Handbooks (or even just written policies) set expectations and make them much easier to enforce
  • Inconsistent application of policies will lead to discrimination claims
  • State laws vary wildly. If you don’t know them, you’re likely to step into it (e.g., dozens of types of leave)
  • Wage and hour requirements vary by state and some things employers think they can do are illegal in all or many of them
Wage and hour laws are “strict liability” statutes, meaning the fact that you didn’t mean to do it wrong is irrelevant
  • Wage and hour claims add up fast and usually have fee-shifting provisions
  • Incorrect classification of independent contractors is widespread and leads to wage and hour claims (as well as trouble with the IRS)
