If You Want to be the Best, You Have to Beat the Best

I’m not a big believer in Monday motivation. I think you need to get your motivation going into the weekend because you have time to think through things and meditate, plan; however you go about planning your week to be better next week than you were this week. If you plan motivation on Monday, you’re already executing your plan that you should have had ready to go into the week.

The Challenge

This week’s Saturday, I want to challenge you to be the best. I think we’ve all heard the saying before that if you’re going to be the best you have to beat the best. When I played baseball my entire life, I didn’t want to go out and hit the long ball off of some guy lobbing the ball in at 45 miles an hour. I wanted to go out and face the dude that was throwing canned heat at 99.

Insurance Production is like Sports Competition

The insurance game is no different. If you want to be better, if you’re going to bring your game to the next level, if you’re going to sharpen your skills, don’t waste your time going in against the schlep that’s out there and not putting forth any effort.  They are just relying on drinking beer and playing golf.  Go after the master of their craft.  Go after the guy/lady that’s got an excellent reputation. Even if you get your butt kicked, you’ll learn enough in the process that you’ll be better the next time, and you just continue to get better and better and better.

Visualize Your Competition

My challenge to you going into the next week is to think about what you can do next week to be better than you were this week.  Also, think about your competitors.  Who do you want to be at that closing table with so that you can get your skills razor-sharp and absolutely kill commercial insurance?

Until next time: Kill or Get Killed!

From Med Device to Middle Market: Lessons on Sales, Risk Management, and Reinventing Yourself in the Insurance Industry

Reinvention is one of the most powerful themes in the insurance industry. Some of the best commercial producers in the country did not grow up wanting to sell insurance. They did not study risk management in college. They did not come from an agency family. They found this industry after they tried something else. They found it after life pushed them toward a career where performance, autonomy, and mindset determine the outcome.
